Ludwig van Beethoven's titanic Symphony No. 9 is part of the four-year long BEETHOVEN PROJECT, which Music Director Manfred
Honeck and your PSO embarked upon at the beginning of this
season. The work is a triumphant celebration of the human spirit and
features the timeless “Ode to Joy.” The music of Beethoven's Ninth
Symphony has a depth of meaning that reaches far beyond its words.
Experience this monumental choral symphony, which Maestro Honeck believes to be “one of the greatest achievements in all art.”

Explore & Engage
Themes and programs that give you a deeper, more meaningful and more personally relevant connection to the music!
Arrive an hour early for the final concert of the first year of our Beethoven Project and enjoy a Concert Prelude with PSO Resident Conductor Lawrence Loh. In the lobby, explore an exhibit of hearing aid technology from Beethoven's day to our times, display boards about Beethoven's life and a video address by PSO Music Director Manfred Honeck from the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn. While there, try out audio excerpts of Beethoven symphonies as the composer may have heard them at different stages of his hearing loss, created in partnership with the Center for Audiology and Hearing Aids, UPMC.
