About This Performance

The stunningly beautiful and captivating violinist Sarah Chang awes in a suite of Leonard Bernstein's classic West Side Story, arranged by David Newman. Son of Hollywood composing legend Alfred Newman and cousin of Randy Newman, is an illustrious film composer whose career spans 40 years and includes scores for The War of the Roses and Hoffa, among many others. The dramatic Spirituals by Grammy and Pulitzer Prize-winning American composer Morton Gould evokes aspects of African-American life and history. And, Jean Sibelius' First Symphony is an impressive and moving work that evokes the composer's native Finnish landscape.
