About This Performance

Legendary violinist, Anne-Sophie Mutter, has captivated audiences with her virtuosic and mesmerizing performances. Mutter performs the romantic Brahms Violin Concerto. And, delight in Mahler's moving Symphony No.1, which depicts the awakening of nature.

Please note that the repertoire for this concert has changed from what was originally scheduled. Beethoven Symphony No. 3 has been replaced by Mahler Symphony No. 1. Please see the following for information on the reason behind making this program change.

For musicians, two concert halls in the world represent the very pinnacle of our art: Carnegie Hall in New York, and the Musikverein in Vienna. The PSO is proud to be returning to both of these great venues in the next few months. We have been asked to play Mahler Symphony No. 1 at both Carnegie Hall and the Musikverein. Since our last performance of this piece was in May 2009, when we performed it on our China tour, we need to play it here in Pittsburgh just before we go to Carnegie Hall, to be sure that we are ready to show your Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at its very best in New York and Europe. For that reason, we are changing the program for February 5 and 6, to perform Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 instead of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3. We will reschedule the Beethoven in a future season.
