Tchaikovsky's romantic and show-stopping Piano Concerto No. 1 with Russian pianist Toradze and Berlioz's sensual musical fantasy provide a grand beginning to the season.

The PSO is proud to present 2007/2008 Composer of the Year, John Corigliano, winner of a Pulitzer Prize (Symphony No. 1) and an Oscar for Best Film Score (The Red Violin). With chamber music, opera and symphonies in his repertoire, Corigliano is a prolific composer who has changed the landscape of new music, and a leader in the current trend toward communicative new music that is embraced by large audiences.
Throughout the Mellon Grand Classics and the Pittsburgh Symphony Chamber Orchestra series, we will be performing works by Corigliano, including:

In February, the PSO performs the world premiere of Corigliano's Percussion Concerto - the only new musical work by Corigliano in the world for 2007-2008. And, we'll be celebrating Corigliano's 70th birthday! |
