PSO Diversity Plan and Programs

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's Diversity Plan outlines a multifaceted approach to promoting conversations about diversity in orchestra settings, recruiting leadership and advisors for diversity initiatives, and building opportunities for performance on and off the orchestral concert stage to better reflect the diverse communities and audiences that orchestras serve.

What is Diversity?
To the PSO, the concept of diversity encompasses the broadest sense of the word, honoring and actively seeking to include and involve the experiences of each person and community that comes into contact with the PSO. Diversity includes race/ethnic background, sexual orientation, gender, age, physical or mental disabilities, family status, socioeconomic status, geographic background, and religion/faith beliefs.

The PSO's work includes the following programs, which include a focus on diversity:

Community Engagement Initiatives
Community Partners
Orchestra Training Program for African American Musicians
"Tribute" Concert
