The annex and plaza area was the site of a Woolworth's store
until 1979, when it was converted into a park that is also used
as an outdoor cafe in good weather. The walls on the street sides
of the plaza are constructed from Cushwa brick. The plaza features
a free moving sculpture entitled "Quartet," designed
by Angela Conner of London. |
|
A waterfall stands in a corner of the plaza. Water to the
waterfall and the sculpture is supplied by an aquifer that flows
underneath Pittsburgh. This same aquifer, a remnant of the Wisconsin
Glacier, also supplies water to the famous fountain at Pittsburgh's
Point State Park, the H.J Heinz Company, and to several downtown
buildings. |
