PSO Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer placements are made with consideration to the interests, availability, and suitability of the volunteer, as well as the needs of the PSO. Please consider making a commitment of your time and talents to enrich your orchestra.

Talk Backs Volunteers attend the first half of the concert and then join the PSO staff in the Grand Tier Lounge after Intermission to help with Talk Backs. They help lead small groups as they discuss the concert during the Talk Back and then stay to help with the clean-up.

Front Desk Greeters are the welcoming face of the Symphony and are often the first person Heinz Hall Administration visitors meet.

Children's Concert Volunteers. Fiddlesticks and Student Open Rehearsal Concerts provide a wonderful opportunity for hundreds of children, their teachers and families to experience the unforgettable sounds of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Volunteers are needed in the craft room and in the Hall.

Information Technology Volunteers are needed in every area of the PSO central services. If you are an experienced computer wiz, desktop publisher, or data input aficionado, please share your special skills with the PSO.

Classroom Docents provide classroom instruction to students throughout the greater Pittsburgh area prior to their school trip to hear the symphony. Teaching the students about the orchestra and the music they will hear enhances their experience and prepares them for the program. If you love young children and music and have some free time on week-days, this volunteer opportunity is for you. Prior teaching experience and Act 33/34 Clearances are a plus.

Audience Development Ambassadors help to enrich the symphony experience for new subscribers. These volunteers assist with various hospitality events that are specifically designed to welcome new friends into the symphony subscription family.

Heinz Hall Tour Guides lead the public on an exciting trip through this magnificent architectural gem. From the brilliant chandeliers in the lobby to the backstage magic these volunteers are trained to share the rich history of the Pittsburgh Symphony with our visitors and guests.

Resource Library Clerks maintain the PSO CD, video/LP collections and magazine subscriptions. For a few hours per week this volunteer receives, checks-in, and shelves the CDs that have returned from circulation and researches recordings and handles recording requests.

Archive Committee members take an active role in the development and implementation of the PSO Archive program.

Patron Pals make it possible for subscribers, who no longer drive, to attend concerts. These generous volunteers transport symphony patron to and from the concerts.

Street Team Volunteers travel out into the community, posting signs and fliers.

Special Event Volunteers host events and support a variety of Central Services programs.

PSO Central Service Volunteers needs your help. If you want an important but congenial volunteer environment, please consider joining our office support team. These administrative and clerical volunteers answer the phones, enter data, and contribute to the smooth operation of the Volunteer program.
