A Celebration of Summer

Allegheny County Parks Summer Concert Series

We are thrilled to be able to be back together for this concert at Hartwood Acres and to perform on Allegheny County’s Summer Concert Series—a fantastic partnership since 1992. This concert is the first time since early March that the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has been able to come together in person to perform a concert. The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra thanks Allegheny County for its commitment to music and for presenting the concert series online this year.

“A Celebration of Summer” features 24 musicians from the strings and percussion sections of the orchestra perform nine works from nine different composers. The concert opens with the lively Praeludium from Edvard Grieg’s Holberg Suite and closes with the rousing Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa. Working within the current health and safety protocols, this concert showcases the full range and virtuosity of our Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra musicians in as many creative formations and combinations as possible.
