CALL FOR SCORES
10th Annual Reading Session
Submission receipt deadline: November 8, 2013
Leonard Slatkin, Conductor
David Stock, Adviser, Year of Pittsburgh Composers
Since the 2004-2005 season, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has offered an annual reading of new works by young composers from area universities as part of its Composer of the Year program. Beginning last season, the PSO's annual reading program expanded its call for submissions to residents of Pennsylvania*. Up to four works will be selected for the reading session, where at least one of the spots will be reserved for a student from the universities that have traditionally participated in the program. Submissions will be evaluated by Adviser David Stock, and read by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra conducted by Leonard Slatkin. The event is free and open to the general public. Following the session, composers will receive feedback from a panel including David Stock, Leonard Slatkin, and PSO musicians.
Eligibility and Submission Guidelines
* Applicants must be residents of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and in the early stages of their professional careers at the time of submission. As part of an ongoing partnership, submissions from the West Virginia University will continue to be accepted. Please see Eligibility and Submission Guidelines below for more details.
