PITTSBURGH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA ANNOUNCES CONTRACT EXTENSION OF ANDRÉS FRANCO

PITTSBURGH, PA—The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce that the contract of Associate Conductor Andrés Franco has been extended through the 2021-2022 season. He will also hold the title of Resident Conductor, effective with the 2019-2020 season.

Mr. Franco is currently in his fourth season as Associate Conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra where he is known for his imaginative programming, energetic style and engagement with audiences. In the role of Resident Conductor, Mr. Franco will continue to assist Music Director Manfred Honeck and the orchestra’s guest conductors, while also leading education, outreach and other concerts throughout the season.

This summer, Mr. Franco will lead outdoor concerts at Hartwood Acres and South Park, a tango program with the full orchestra on July 25, as well as Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets™ in Concert. Throughout the 2019-2020 season, Mr. Franco will also lead performances on the classical, family, and learning and community engagement series, multiple film programs and continue his association with the orchestra’s programming with City of Asylum.

Mr. Franco is also Music Director of Tulsa’s Signature Symphony. His recent debuts include the Dallas Symphony, Omaha Symphony and Wheeling Symphony, as well as return engagements with the Detroit Symphony and Houston Symphony.
