For Immediate Release
March 13, 2020

PITTSBURGH, PA—The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is announcing new actions for concerts and events on its calendar through the end of March. “We are committed to the health and well-being of our staff, musicians, volunteers and patrons. In the best interests of all and using guidance from government and public health authorities, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is postponing or cancelling concerts and events through March 29th.  We are exploring all possibilities for future dates for the postponed concerts,” said Melia Tourangeau, President and CEO of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts that will be postponed are:

  • BNY Mellon Grand Classics concerts on March 13 and 15, and March 27 and 29
  • PNC Pops “Bugs Bunny at the Symphony” concerts on March 20, 21 and 22

The Symphony announced that it is cancelling the following:

  • EQT Student Side-by-Side concert on March 18
  • March 24 new subscriber/new donor evening reception

“The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra’s nearly 125-year commitment to this region is based on our mutual love of music and the deep relationship between the orchestra and our community. As we navigate this exceptional situation together, we will continue to find ways to bring the power of music to our community, and will let you know more about that soon,” said Tourangeau.

According to the Symphony, these actions will have a significant financial impact on the Orchestra. “We are grateful for the deep generosity of our community and ask that, whenever possible, that you consider ticket exchanges or donating your tickets for a tax refund. As a nonprofit arts organization, the Pittsburgh Symphony relies on the audience we serve. By donating your tickets in lieu of a refund, you are providing vital support for the music and musicians that inspire and connect our community,” said Tourangeau.
