Cynthia Busch

Cynthia Busch joined the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Viola Section in 1981. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Busch began her musical training on the violin at the age of five. At 17 she was awarded a four-year scholarship to Duquesne University from which she graduated cum laude in 1976. She has studied with Raphael Hillyer and Michael Zaretsky of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and chamber literature with Ruth Laredo, Joseph Silverstein and the Tokyo Quartet.

Among the numerous awards she has won are the Pittsburgh Concert Society Auditions (1973) and a Fellowship to the Yale Summer School of Music. In 1979 she was awarded the Berkshire Eagle Fellowship to attend the Berkshire Music Festival at Tanglewood. While there, she won the prestigious Henri Kohn Memorial Prize as the most outstanding Fellow of the 1979 session. The following year she was awarded the Seiji Ozawa Fellowship.

In her spare time, Cynthia enjoys sewing and quilting. She is an active member of the Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh.
